April Michelle Davis at Communication Central Conference, 2012

The Communication Central conference in October 2012 was a two-day event that attracted attendees from all over the United States and even went global with a few international attendees.

April Michelle Davis, owner of Editorial Inspirations, was a speaker at the Communication Central conference; April Michelle was among the top names in the industry such as Ruth E. Thaler-Carter, Bevi Chagnon, and Maggie Secara.

The first day of the conference began with a session on using wildcards in Microsoft Word. In “Go Wild with Wildcards for Greater Productivity,” April Michelle Davis stepped in for Jack Lyon of the Editorium and spoke on modes for working more efficiently and effectively. April Michelle, realizing that freelancers look for ways to make the most out of every hour, helped to increase awareness and understanding about how wildcards save time and encourage more efficient work habits and increase productivity. April Michelle led an interactive demonstration where many of the attendees expressed their interest in the topic by enthusiastically taking part in the discussion.

On the second day of the conference, April Michelle Davis was featured in the discussion of her marketing methods for reaching both publishers and authors. Other guest speakers were Erin Brenner, editor of Copyediting newsletter; Janice Campbell, executive director of the National Association of Independent Writers and Editors; Laura Poole, owner of the Editorial Bootcamp; John McIntyre of the Baltimore Sun and American Copy Editors Society; Carol Fisher Saller of the University of Chicago Press and Chicago Manual of Style Online Q&A and author of The Subversive Copy Editor; and Barbara Hart, owner of Publications Professionals LLC.

The conference is open to all audiences. The speakers have been successful industry professionals who share a sense of duty to give back to the community by conducting seminars and workshops, while promoting networking opportunities.
