Can Anyone Be an Editor?
With all of the different kinds of editing, grammar rules, and monotonous re-reading, editing can be a complicated and overwhelming process. Editing is undoubtedly crucial to the writing process. The article “Anyone Can Proofread a Newspaper,” from the October edition of the Editorial Inspirations newsletter, mentions that many newspaper companies have fired their editors. Unfortunately, the unedited errors disgruntled some of the newspaper readers. Editing is a step that we cannot dismiss. But, can editing be fun? Of course it can!
One way to spruce up your editing skills is with Editorial Inspirations’ class, Editing 101. We will discuss basic editing skills as well as the publishing process. For the business minded, you can glean some tips as we talk about the business part of editing. This class will also cover IT needs for editors and one-on-one appointment times with an IT specialist to review your specific problems. A bonus grammar review will be included as well! This practical, informative, and hands-on class will be held November 6, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. (breakfast and lunch will be included). Register for this class on October 13 (which is English Language Day), or on October 16 (which is Dictionary Day), and you will receive a 10% discount!
Earlier this month, I was interviewed for an article in the Richmond Times-Dispatch on networking. We will be discussing many of the same topics mentioned in this article in Editing 101.
