Grammar 101

Over 150 pages of grammar, and now updated for the Chicago Manual of Style 17th edition!

This is a correspondence course where participants work one-on-one with April Michelle Davis, a professional editor with over 10 years’ experience. There are 10 lessons within this course.

Upon registration, participants will be invited to join the Editorial Inspirations LinkedIn group where they can discuss the course and the publishing industry, find out about publishing-related jobs, and more.

Editorial Inspirations offers this specialized class designed for those who are in the editing industry (or who want to become freelance editors), as well as for people who write for a living (and who doesn’t!). This hands-on, interactive class will provide detailed discussions about parts of speech, clauses, phrases, parallel structure, comparisons, double negatives, modifiers, punctuation, and spelling. Class Overview

Pretest
A pretest covering grammar will be emailed upon registration. Participants return the test to the instructor for grading.

• Parts of Speech: Verbs
• Subjects and Verbs
• Parts of Speech: Adjectives, Adverbs, Conjunctions, Prepositions
• Clauses and Phrases
• Parallel Structure, Comparisons, Double Negatives, and Modifiers
• Apostrophes, Brackets, Commas
• Colons, Ellipses, Em Dashes, En Dashes, and Hyphens
• Parentheses, Quotation Marks, Semicolons, and Slashes
• Spelling

Post-test
A post-test covering grammar will be emailed upon completion of the final lesson. Participants return the test to the instructor for grading.

Homework

After the ten lessons have been completed and graded, if the post-test is completed and submitted, April Michelle Davis will provide a recommendation on LinkedIn.
