When to Capitalize Seasons

Oftentimes, people feel the need to capitalize the names of seasons. You may be surprised to learn that the seasons of the year—“winter”, “summer”, “spring”, “fall”, and/or “autumn”—are only ever capitalized when they are part of a proper name.

Vermont is beautiful in the winter

We attended the Winter Olympics.
